Alec Morrison

Alec originally became involved in the Chatterley Whitfield Regeneration Project in August 2000 while working for Stoke-on-Trent City Council when he took the post of Project Co-ordinator. His role was to:

  • encourage community involvement
  • liaise between the many different organisations and departments involved in the project and
  • apply for funding from a wide range of sources.

Alec had no connection with the mining industry until he took this job, but he soon became fascinated by the Whitfield colliery and the mining industry in general.

One of his most important duties was to set up and work closely with the Friends of Chatterley Whitfield, and he represented the Chatterley Whitfield Partnership on the Friends' Committee. He also chaired the monthly community meetings.

In April 2004, Alec left the City Council to pursue a different career, but remained a member of the Friends. He was Chair of the Friends between November 2004 and November 2006, and is responsible for maintaining the website.
