Interior of the lamphouse One of the tours of the site

Heritage Open Day 2007

Heritage Open Day 2007 was a big success. All sixty places on the three tours were booked several days before the event, and we could easily have filled another two tours.

This year we were allowed to take tours into the Lamphouse and the Pithead Baths as we used to. Temporary lamps had to be rigged up in the Baths, however, because the glass skylights have been covered.

Additionally, for the first time ever, we were also able to take people into the Middle Pit winding shed. This was possible because the rear of the building, which used to lead down into the Underground Experience, has been blocked up.

Many visitors commented that they enjoyed the event, and several who had also visited last year said the opportunity to enter even just a few buildings improved the tour immensely.

A big thank you goes to all of the Friends who took part in the event, and to the City Council for allowing the event to go ahead. We hope we can repeat the event next year.
